The Way Forward
The future of our parish/church is in our hands and we all need to make a choice to secure this future. Some of you will know that our parish is growing and more of you are involved in that growth by being members of groups and socialising with each other. This is not the case elsewhere. With the dwindling number of priests, the job of securing our future falls to us, YOU and ME. If we do nothing or hope others do it, the future looks bleak.
1. Our churches could close
2. We could travel further to go to Mass
3. We could lose touch with our sense of community
4. We could lose a resident parish priest
Is there anything we can do?
YES!
Our parish has a very high percentage of parishioner involvement. 40% of us are members of various groups and ministries compared with 5-10% in other parishes. We are not afraid to try new ideas or ‘borrow’ traditions from other parts of the world to enhance our experience of our faith. This makes us uniquely placed to take the next step in our parish development.
Family Groups of Families
Family is where we are most likely to experience unconditional love. Unconditional, unselfish love is holy. God made families for us to learn about and experience his love.
If God is Love and we are to be at one with God, we need to be Love. No matter how broken, messy or complicated, a family is where someone loves you.
We want to set up family groups within our parish, groups of people coming together to form family groups. We have wonderful opportunity to meet and listen to the founder of Family Group of Families on Saturday 18th February, more details will be available in the weeks ahead.
Remember! This is not a ‘new movement’ it’s just a framework for doing the work God called us to do. One step at a time…With faith in the Holy Spirit…Anything is possible! All we need is love.
